Physical and Mechanical Properties of Plywood Produced with Thermally Treated Pinus taeda Veneers

چکیده

Plywood is a structural composite mainly applied in construction. For this purpose, some sort of preservative treatment recommended to increase its durability. One option the available treatments heat treatment, which promotes modification wood properties. This carried out on final product (plywood), because it can reduce strength if veneers. However, no study has proven such reduction. Therefore, aim work was evaluate three different temperatures (160 °C, 180 °C and 200 °C) veneer surface physical properties (specific gravity, moisture content swelling thickness) mechanical (MOE MOR static bending) Pinus taeda plywood. A reduction observed roughness veneer’s surfaces total extractives changed, with minimum value reached 160 treatment. The plywood specific gravity initially increased did not change at higher temperatures, reduced, thickness affected. There plywood, evidencing that does prejudice mechanically product.

PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF PLYWOOD MANUFACTURED FROM TREATED RED-HEART BEECH (Fagus Orientalis L.) WOOD VENEERS

Effects of drying temperature and artificial UV irradiation on the pH of veneer surfaces, water absorption, thickness swelling, as well as shear strength of plywood manufactured from untreated and treated veneer sheets were evaluated. Rotary cut veneer sheets from beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) log were selected. The veneer sheets were dried at either 100C or 180C after peeling. Then the sur...

Some Mechanical Properties of Plywood Produced from Eucalyptus, Beech, and Poplar Veneer

In this study, we determined the flexural properties and tensile shear strength of five-ply plywood panels produced with eucalyptus (Eucalyptus grandis), beech (Fagus orientalis), and hybrid poplar (Populus x euramericana) using urea-formaldehyde (UF), melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) and phenol-formaldehyde (PF) adhesives. Flexural properties were tested on both parallel and perpendicular to g...

Physical and mechanical properties of flakeboard produced from recycled CCA-treated wood

Chromated copper arsenate (CCA) treated wood has been most widely used in North America since the 1970s for many exterior applications such as decks, fences, playground equipment, utility poles, and others. A large volume of CCA-treated wood is currently coming out of service. Traditional disposal methods such as landfilling and incineration are not without adverse environmental outcomes. Recyc...

Introgression between Pinus taeda L. and Pinus echinata Mill

Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) and shortleaf pine (Pinus echinata Mill.) have widely overlapping geographic ranges. Hybridization between the two species has interested tree breeders for a long time. Morphologically, the two pine species are different. The needles of loblolly pine are 6 to 9 inches long, usually with three yellow-green needles per fascicle; but shortleaf pine needles are 3 to 5...
